Hi, I’m Blossom!
I HELP Children, TEENS, ADULTS, couples AND FAMILIES TO deal with life’s big questions AND find more meaning and joy IN THEIR LIVES.
I am a Registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor specializing in helping people navigate a variety of life stressors. I especially enjoy working with children and teens who are struggling with issues related to anxiety, depression, self-esteem, ADHD, autism, learning differences, grief and trauma, as well as couples and families seeking to build healthier connections. Oftentimes, people have turned to unhealthy coping patterns such as isolating themselves, excessive social media or video game use, poor eating and sleeping habits, school avoidance, and more. I provide guidance and support to help clients learn healthier ways to regulate their emotions, problem-solve, succeed in school, and cultivate better relationships with peers and loved ones.
DEEPENING CONNECTIONS AND BUILDING CONFIDENCE FOR INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES
I help my clients of all ages to cope with life stresses by providing a safe space where they can express themselves and learn new skills to process difficult thoughts and feelings so that they can feel more comfortable in their own skin, improve their relationships, and find more satisfaction at school or work. Whenever possible, I collaborate with parents/caregivers by providing coaching and support, helping to come up with a plan that takes into account their child’s unique underlying needs, motivations and strengths.
My Approach
I first take the time to understand you and your family — to really get to know you or your child's strengths, dreams, goals and challenges. I seek to understand what motivates you and how your family history and current environment have contributed to the issues you are wanting to resolve.
I believe there is not one path to change, but rather that change depends on context, motivation and alchemy between client and therapist. I take a Relational-Cultural approach that emphasizes growth through building deeper relationships with those around us. I believe personal responsibility and attitude are crucial, but so is recognizing your socio political circumstances and the factors outside your control.
In therapy, we focus together on identifying what’s most important to you, the areas in need of skill-building, and a plan for how you can improve relationships and overcome the symptoms that have been interfering with your mental and emotional wellbeing. Over time, we work toward helping you feel less impacted by your thoughts and feelings, make changes to unhelpful behaviors, and feel more confidence in your ability to handle whatever life throws your way, so you can experience greater joy and balance.
Education and Training
I am a Registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (APCC). I earned a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Clinical Mental Health at Texas State University. I also hold a Masters of Arts in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies from Brandeis University. I am currently working on completing the 3,000 hours of supervised clinical experience required in order to complete my final licensing exam to become an independently Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. As a board registered associate, I am under the clinical supervision of April Hanig, LMFT, the owner and Clinical Director at New Leaf who actively collaborates with me on treatment planning and client care.
I have a variety of experiences in the counseling field, from children through end-of-life. In addition to working with youth for many years in my prior career in the nonprofit sector, I have worked in the sex therapy field with clients who are trans, kinky, queer, and/or consensually non monogamous, as well as led group therapy for felony sex offenders. I have also worked with grieving families who have experienced a significant loss. I am trained to provide individual, group, couples and family therapy for clients experiencing a variety of presenting issues.
In my free time, I enjoy playing guitar, tennis, singing, volunteering, and spending time with my family.
